For the second year in a row, my mom's flight to come see us for Christmas was canceled. It is becoming a new Christmas tradition! Last year it was due to snow in Portland, this year because of our snowstorm here on the East Coast. So instead of sending Matt to the airport to pick her up yesterday on a leisurely Sunday afternoon, I got to make the trip during Monday rush hour. I've driven to JFK during this time of day before, but this trip was epic. What should have taken two hours round trip took four. The traffic was terrible, and a delay getting my mom's bags at the airport didn't help matters. But the important thing is that Grandma made it in time for Christmas.
