Did you know that "This Old Man" is apparently the funniest song ever? No? Neither did I. Maybe calling it "Miss Old Man" like Ella does makes it funnier. I'll have to try it sometime. It's one of the songs in Ella's Music Together class this semester, and I get the distinct pleasure of playing it for her in the car over and over and over again (when I'm feeling charitable and not forcing her to listen to "Mommy's songs"). Each time I hear this song, without fail, it goes something like this:
Cheerful lyrics blaring out of the car speakers: This old man, he played one. He played knick-knack on his thumb...
Ella: On his thumb?! (Proceeds to dissolve into a fit of giggles which inevitably turns into a throaty cackle.)
She starts to sing along, but the giggles soon return when we discover that the only thing more hilarious than playing knick-knack on your thumb is playing knick-knack on your shoe.
On our CD, the knick-knacking only goes up to five. Someday, when she's ready, I'll teach her some of the later verses, like when we get to six and she discovers that the old man plays knick-knack with sticks.
I think it's going to rock her world.
P.S. I finally ripped the glue (that you see in this photo) off of Ella's eye yesterday. It was dangling by threads and Ella still wouldn't let me touch it, but I finally forced the issue and gave her an unintended partial eyebrow wax in the process. Children's eyebrows grow back, right? At least the cut looks like it healed well. It's still a bit red, but I'm sure it will fade in time and won't be noticeable at all.
